ADVANCED PERSISTENT THREAT (APT)

A targeted computer intrusion in which the attacker seeks a long-term presence on the compromised system, while remaining stealthy. This type of attack requires good technical skills and tailor-made tools, and is therefore usually associated with skilled cybercriminals or state actors. It is also more often than not used as an excuse by companies that have been the victims of a simplistic attack, but are afraid to admit it.
